Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig (HBK Braunschweig) is a German art university with roots tracing back to a drawing institute founded in 1841 and, through several institutional stages, was established in its present form in 1963, becoming the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in 1978. It is the only art academy in the state of Lower Saxony and one of the largest art academies in Germany, with around 1,000 students studying fine arts, art education, performing arts, design, visual communication, art history, and media studies. HBK Braunschweig holds the right to award doctoral and post-doctoral (habilitation) qualifications. With Braunschweig Projects, the university administers artistic fellowships on behalf of the State of Lower Saxony, also serving to internationalize the institution.

Braunschweig Projects 2027/2028: Artist Funding of the State of Lower Saxony at HBK Braunschweig
This is a call for applications for fellowships supporting emerging artists, offered by HBK Braunschweig on behalf of the State of Lower Saxony. The programme provides 7 artistic fellowships for the 2027/28 cycle: 5 in fine arts and 2 in sound art. Fellows work on a project in the immediate vicinity of HBK Braunschweig, with their project proposal expected to make a significant contribution toward the further development of forms of artistic practice. Each fellow is assigned a mentor — a fine arts professor chosen by the fellow — and has access to artistic discourse with all professors in the fine arts department; the university also actively supports the mediation of contacts. Fellows present the current status of their project within the university and are expected to participate in the Welcome Weeks (19–30 April 2027) and a joint final presentation in January/February 2028, which culminates in a joint final exhibition.

Eligibility
- Applicants must hold a completed art degree
- Most recent studies must have been completed after 31 March 2016 and before 1 April 2023 — note: the organizer's website states this window as "after 1 April 2016 and before 1 April 2023," which conflicts slightly with the source document's "31 March 2016"; this should be verified before publishing
- Applicants must be able to show proof of extensive artistic practice and exhibition participation
- A fellowship cannot be granted if the applicant is receiving regular payments from third parties during the funding period (e.g. residence or salary payments, or work scholarships) or a state subsidy
- It is not possible to apply for both the fine arts and sound art scholarships at the same time
- Applications may be submitted in German or English

Application Fee
