Organizer Information
The Edna W. Andrade Fund is a Donor Advised Fund managed by the Philadelphia Foundation, one of the United States’ oldest and most established community foundations, supporting philanthropic initiatives across the Greater Philadelphia region. The Philadelphia Foundation works to strengthen local communities by funding nonprofit organizations, fostering equity, and supporting cultural, educational, and civic development.
The Edna W. Andrade Fund was established through the estate of Edna Andrade, a prominent Philadelphia-based artist and educator associated with the Op Art movement of the 1960s. Andrade’s legacy reflects a strong commitment to visual experimentation, education, and the advancement of contemporary art practice. Through this fund, her estate continues to support visual artists by enabling museums and nonprofit institutions to commission, exhibit, and acquire artworks created by artists from the Greater Philadelphia area.
The fund is specifically designed to strengthen the visibility and sustainability of visual fine artists through institutional support, ensuring that local artistic production is actively supported within museums, galleries, and nonprofit cultural spaces.
Title & Description
Edna W. Andrade Grants for Visual Artists – Institutional Support Program (2026)
The Edna W. Andrade Grants program provides financial support to nonprofit arts organizations and museums that are committed to promoting visual fine artists from the Greater Philadelphia region. Rather than funding individual artists directly, the program strengthens the ecosystem surrounding artists by enabling institutions to commission, exhibit, or acquire works from selected artists.
The grant supports three primary types of institutional activity:
- Art Acquisition or Commissioning Grants
Funding for museums or nonprofit organizations to purchase or commission works by specific visual artists from the Greater Philadelphia area. - Solo Exhibition Grants
Support for one-person exhibitions dedicated to artists from the eligible region, presented in museums or nonprofit cultural institutions. - Artist-Led or Community Projects via Fiscal Sponsorship
Grants administered through nonprofit fiscal agents for individual artists or artist groups developing or continuing educational, cultural, humanitarian, or environmental projects.
The program emphasizes strengthening long-term artistic infrastructure and visibility for visual artists working in painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, and other two- and three-dimensional media.
Grant amounts range from $5,000 to $25,000, depending on project scope and institutional proposal.
