Organizer Information
Frappant e.V. is a non-profit artists' association based in the former Viktoria Kaserne (barracks) in Hamburg-Altona, active since 2009 and rooted in an artist community that has grown there since 2005. The association has been a partner of the fux eG cooperative since fux purchased the barracks complex in 2015, helping shape it into a shared production site for art, culture, design, trade, education and social organizations. Frappant runs a year-round exhibition programme for experimental and young contemporary art in the Frappant Gallery and operates the Kachelraum as a free space for emerging musicians and artists. This scholarship is awarded in cooperation with the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung (Hamburg Cultural Foundation), which has supported art and culture in Hamburg since 1988 with a particular focus on emerging artists and on children's and youth culture, distributing more than €1 million annually for cultural projects. The scholarship is financed through the Susanne and Michael Liebelt Stiftungsfonds, a fund the couple established in 2020 under the Foundation's umbrella specifically to improve working conditions for freelance artists by supporting projects, studios, and rehearsal spaces.
