Organizer Information

The Inge Morath Award is administered by the Magnum Foundation in collaboration with the Inge Morath Estate. The Magnum Foundation is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting documentary photographers, visual storytellers, and socially engaged image-makers worldwide. Through grants, fellowships, and educational initiatives, it fosters creativity, diversity, and critical engagement in contemporary photography.

The award honors the legacy of Inge Morath, a pioneering Austrian-born photographer and one of the first female members of Magnum Photos. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, Morath became known for her humanistic documentary work and commitment to cross-cultural storytelling. Following her passing in 2002, the award was established to continue her dedication to supporting emerging women photographers.

Today, the award remains one of the most prestigious early-career grants in documentary photography, particularly focused on empowering underrepresented voices in the field.
