Short Description
The Expanded Mediterranean Residency seeks projects that broaden the notion of the Mediterranean through narratives that break away from existing stereotypes and build bridges both in terms of content and on a conceptual level.
Konvent is a self-managed cultural entity that, through art and culture, seeks to restore the activity
of the territory where it is located, an old 19th-century monastery located in the industrial colony of
Cal Rosal (Berguedà). The Konvent project was installed in this space to bring life and look after
the industrial heritage, and to provide the area with a cultural infrastructure. Progressively, the
maintenance of the buildings has been extended to conserve the heritage and adapt the spaces to
generate a cultural activation through artistic practices, to dynamize the space and the immediate
area.
Now converted into an experimental laboratory, many different projects converge there, hosting those proposals that have no place in the institutional cultural framework, from contemporary art exhibitions to artistic residencies, concerts, conferences and meetings as well as diverse cultural programming. It is a space for art but, above all, it is a way of making and understanding culture as a practice rooted in the territory, reformulating territorial dynamics and paying attention to the successes that take place in the so-called “periphery”.
This rescued heritage space has become a home for the people who manage the project and who cohabit the space with residents and visitors.
