The Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in Textiles.
This specialized Education program focuses on the examination and treatment of 20th and 21st-century costumes. The fellow will engage in high-level professional development, participating in preventive conservation, photography, exhibitions, and international loans while conducting original Research on garment construction and material science.
This is a Regular Full-Time Fellowship with a Salary of $25.00 per hour. It is a one-year Project with the potential for renewal, reporting directly to the Senior Conservator of Textiles.
Fellow's Tasks:
- The fellow is responsible for examining and treating a wide range of costumes and documenting all conservation processes.
- They will support Exhibition planning and serve as a courier for works of art on loan to other institutions.
- A core requirement is to develop a Research project focused on artist materials or new treatment methodologies, eventually presenting findings in a professional Publication or at a Conference.
- Collaboration with curators and conservation scientists is required daily, alongside participation in any departmental Symposium or Workshop.

Eligibility
- Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Textiles Conservation.
- Applicants should demonstrate manual dexterity, sewing skills, and a scholarly aptitude for Research. Knowledge of fashion history and garment pattern making is preferred.
Program Benefits
- The fellow receives a Paid hourly wage of $25.00 and is eligible for LACMA’s comprehensive benefits package.
