Miami International Fine Arts (MIFA) is an active platform for the creation, education, and exhibition of contemporary art, located between Doral and Miami Springs. Its programming brings together resident artists, exhibitions, workshops, performing arts, music, poetry, printmaking, and community-based projects, and it promotes a rigorous, accessible, interdisciplinary artistic practice connected to the diverse communities of South Florida. MIFA Curators-in-Residence Program 2027
MIFA invites curators, art researchers, art writers, cultural producers, and creative professionals with curatorial experience to apply for its Curators-in-Residence Program 2027. Up to five curators will be selected to collaborate with MIFA's Artistic Director throughout the year, evaluating exhibition proposals submitted to MIFA's parallel 2027 Open Call for Exhibition Projects, mentoring participating artists, and developing exhibitions across the institution. The program aims to strengthen emerging and mid-career curatorial voices, support artists' professional development, and build a diverse, rigorous exhibition program connected to the cultural context of South Florida.

Eligibility
- Open to professionals working in curatorial practice, art research, art criticism, cultural management, or interdisciplinary practices related to contemporary visual art
- An academic degree in curatorial studies is not required; both academic backgrounds and independently developed curatorial practices will be considered
- Fluency in English and Spanish is valued but not required; applicants must be able to communicate professionally in at least one of the two languages
- Priority given to applicants demonstrating a clearly defined curatorial vision, knowledge of contemporary art and discourse, direct experience working with artists, strong writing/editing/communication skills, experience organizing exhibitions or public programs, interest in cultural diversity and interdisciplinary practices, ability to work within a self-managed artistic ecosystem, and knowledge of the artistic contexts of Miami, the Caribbean, Latin America, or their diasporas
- Applicants not residing in the Miami area are responsible for their own transportation, accommodation, and travel expenses
- Selected curators may not submit their own artwork as artists to MIFA's 2027 Open Call for Exhibition Projects, and must disclose and recuse themselves from evaluating any application involving a personal, family, romantic, financial, or conflicting professional relationship

None. The monthly rent for these studios ranges from $500 to $1500.

Additional Details
- Curators-in-Residence responsibilities span three areas: Exhibition Project Selection (reviewing applications to MIFA's 2027 Open Call for Exhibition Projects, applying a shared assessment rubric, joining committee deliberations and shortlist interviews), Exhibition Development (curating or supporting one or more 2027 exhibitions, conducting studio visits, reviewing artist materials, writing curatorial essays and wall texts, coordinating installation with the MIFA team, and being present for installation, openings, and related public activities), and Institutional Participation (attending curatorial/programming meetings, maintaining communication with artists and staff, and meeting all documentation deadlines)
- Final selection of exhibition projects is made jointly by the MIFA Artistic Director and the Curators-in-Residence committee
- Selection criteria: Curatorial vision and critical thinking (25%), Experience and quality of previous projects (20%), Writing and communication skills (15%), Ability to support artists (15%), Alignment with MIFA's mission (15%), Organization and availability (10%)
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a virtual or in-person interview with the Artistic Director and MIFA representatives
- Curators may not promise gallery spaces, exhibition dates, or institutional benefits to any artist outside MIFA's official selection process; all application information must remain confidential within the selection committee
