Project 100 is an artist-run contemporary gallery and project space in Whakatū Nelson, Aotearoa New Zealand. Operated as a charitable trust, the organization provides a commission-free platform for artists and curators to experiment, take creative risks, and develop ambitious projects outside the commercial gallery system. Its programme includes exhibitions, events, and public activities designed to encourage contemporary practice and meaningful connections between artists, ideas, and audiences.
Title & Description
Project 100 is inviting proposals for its 2027 Exhibition Programme, with two residency opportunities available: the Recent Graduates Exhibition Residency in May 2027 and the Curators Exhibition Residency in November 2027.
Each selected resident receives exclusive use of the Project 100 gallery for one month to realise an exhibition, public programme, or experimental contemporary art project. The programme seeks ambitious, conceptual, and boundary-pushing proposals that test new ideas and create meaningful experiences beyond a conventional commercial gallery setting.
Solo and collaborative projects are welcome, and applications are encouraged across contemporary art disciplines. Residents are expected to take an active role throughout their exhibition period, including opening the gallery during regular public hours and delivering at least one additional public activation, such as an artist talk, workshop, performance, or discussion.

Eligibility
- Recent Graduates Exhibition Programme — May 2027: Open to artists who graduated from a tertiary arts programme within the previous two years, preferably from a New Zealand institution. Applicants should demonstrate strong conceptual thinking and the ability to independently realise an exhibition or public programme.
- Curators Exhibition Programme — November 2027: Open to emerging and established curators, independent practitioners, and collectives based in Aotearoa New Zealand. Previous curatorial experience is welcome but is not essential.
Selected residents must be able to live and work in Whakatū Nelson for the full one-month exhibition period.

This opportunity is intended primarily for presenting an exhibition or public programme rather than producing entirely new work during the residency. Depending on the proposed practice, there may nevertheless be scope to work from the gallery during the exhibition period; applicants should discuss this with the Project 100 team as part of their proposal.
Because Project 100 is an artist-run space, selected residents are expected to contribute actively to the public-facing operation of their project. This includes opening the gallery during regular public hours and organising at least one public activation.
