Organizer Information

Re:Create Europe is a multi-year European cooperation initiative launched by the European Alliance of Academies. The project brings together cultural institutions, academies, artistic networks, and independent cultural actors from across Europe to advocate for artistic freedom and support cultural practitioners working in challenging social, political, economic, and environmental contexts. Through residencies, research, international exchanges, publications, and educational programmes, Re:Create Europe explores how artists respond to threats affecting cultural production and civic participation. The project is structured around four annual thematic cycles (2026–2029), addressing cultural policy transformation, recovery from war and aggression, economic threats, and climate change.

For its 2026 programme, Re:Create Europe focuses on Transformation of Cultural Policies, examining how artists, cultural workers, and institutions navigate periods of political and social change while safeguarding artistic autonomy, cultural resilience, and civic engagement.

Title & Description

Re:Create Europe Open Calls 2026 – Residencies, Webinar Series & Atlas of Resilience

Re:Create Europe invites emerging artists and cultural practitioners from across Europe and beyond to participate in a series of international residency programmes and an accompanying online webinar programme focused on artistic resilience, resistance, and cultural transformation.

The 2026 programme explores how artistic and cultural practices can respond to changing political environments and evolving cultural policies. Participants are encouraged to investigate themes such as artistic freedom, institutional transformation, civic engagement, community resilience, cultural activism, and strategies for sustaining creative work under challenging circumstances.

Applicants may apply separately to one of four international residency programmes hosted in different European locations or to the thematic webinar series. Participants selected for the residencies are encouraged to engage with the wider programme structure, including online discussions and collaborative knowledge-sharing activities.

A key outcome of the programme is the development of the Atlas of Artistic Resilience, a digital publication and mapping platform documenting experiences, case studies, artistic responses, and resilience strategies from artists and cultural workers operating across Europe. Selected participants will contribute materials such as texts, interviews, photographs, videos, creative works, and research findings to this evolving digital resource.

The programme aims to foster international exchange, professional development, interdisciplinary dialogue, and long-term networking among artists, cultural practitioners, activists, and institutions working at the intersection of art and social engagement.
